The Denver Energy Challenge
Helping Denver Businesses Save Energy, Money
Brendle Group supported Denver’s Department of Environmental Health Denver Energy Challenge with energy efficiency program development and implementation, as well as partner training. The overarching goals of the Energy Challenge were to help Denver residents and businesses reduce energy use by 15 percent, save money, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in support of the Denver Climate Action Plan.
Brendle Group was involved with the commercial business components of the program that, combined, have served over 1,225 businesses with more than 890 completed projects. Another key to the program is that the tools created in 2012 to support businesses will be long-lasting and will have persistence beyond the grant period. Transferrable lessons from this project indicate that each building is unique, requiring flexibility and adaptation, smaller buildings have fewer opportunities, and preventative maintenance is critical but not well defined in the industry.
