Senior Energy Engineer or Planner

Position Description

Brendle Group seeks a senior energy engineer or planner to join our team. We hire strongly from our professional network and believe in finding the right person first and then shaping the consulting practice and position details to maximize both the applicant’s career development goals and the company’s impact-driven, people-centered priorities.

Each of our team members has strong breadth across a range of sustainability practice areas, with 1-2 deeper core competencies. For this position, we’re specifically seeking passion and professional experience in sustainable energy. Our energy services are delivered at various scales (e.g., community, district, campus, portfolio, buildings) covering the full project life cycle from idea to implementation. Our energy services are highly integrated with our climate and water practice areas and often are driven by aggressive net zero or regenerative goals. Our primary clients in energy are electric utilities, local government, airports, higher education institutions, school districts, ski areas and real estate developers.

As a senior position, we’ll be looking for candidates with existing and emerging skills and interests that align with our leadership development framework including thought leadership, market development, and building and managing effective teams.

We are looking for people with a strategic orientation that are passionate about sustainable energy and possess the professional integrity, maturity, agility and decision-making to drive results.

Position Responsibilities

  • Optimally position and grow Brendle Group’s existing services in the marketplace that align with our Strategic Plan
  • Effectively manage multiple projects in collaboration with clients, staff project managers, and other senior staff
  • Ensure exceptional quality service delivery, ranging from development to quality assurance to mentoring of staff
  • Develop new technical services and products to meet client demands and innovate in the marketplace
  • Help with recruitment and staff development, building and managing effective teams

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Self-motivated, ambitious, innovative team player with a passion for energy
  • B.S. or equivalent engineering, planning, business, and/or related degree from a four-year accredited university or college. . Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience that includes related engineering, planning, and/or sustainability management experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a management capacity – including managing people and team building, managing sizable budgets, and/or managing entire programs or service areas
  • Experience and proven track record in winning and managing business across multiple customer channels
  • Beyond experience, candidate must be impact-driven with quantifiable impacts from their career to date, commensurate with their career path and years of experience. Examples include demonstrated impact in one or more of the following areas:

    • Designing, implementing and managing utility-scale demand side management programs with demonstrated energy, carbon and cost-benefits for utility and customers
    • Successfully implementing a building, campus or district-scale project that was market-leading and resulted in significant new innovation in net zero energy, regeneration, or deep energy renovation.
    • Being a key player in conceptualizing, analyzing and bringing a significant new policy innovation through implementation at the local government level
  • Consulting and workplace skills

    • Strong knowledge of PC-based software applications
    • Strong writing, verbal communication, and/or facilitation skills
    • Demonstrated project management success
    • Demonstrated business development success
    • Previous experience in or exposure to the consulting industry

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Candidates will be nationally or regionally recognized for their work and have an influence in the sustainable energy industry.
  • Small business experience and/or understanding and enthusiasm for working in a small business atmosphere - including the coordination and communication with co-workers to most efficiently utilize available resources and time
  • Demonstrated thought leadership and innovation
  • Relevant professional certification(s) commensurate with career path to date, such as but not limited to the following examples:
    • Professional Engineering (PE) license,
    • Professional Planning certification (AICP),
    • MBA with a focus on sustainable enterprise, and/or other sustainability-related licenses and certifications
    • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, trained facilitator, and/or other related project management and professional training
    • LEEDTM accredited professional
