Sustainability Consultant, Utah Office

Position Description

Brendle Group is a small but strategically growing company in the sustainability industry. We seek a sustainability professional to join our Salt Lake City office. We hire strongly from our professional network and believe in finding the right person first and then shaping the consulting practice and position details to maximize both the applicant’s career development goals and the company’s impact-driven, people-centered priorities. This open position is for a full-time mid- to senior level planner, engineer or other sustainability professional skilled in providing technical consulting services, generating new business, providing leadership, and effectively managing teams and projects to help support and grow our Salt Lake City office.

Each of our team members has strong breadth across a range of sustainability practice areas, with 1-2 deeper core competencies. Our services are delivered at various scales (e.g., community, district, campus, portfolio, buildings) covering the full project life cycle from idea to implementation. Our primary clients in Utah are electric and water utilities, local government, education institutions, ski areas and real estate developers.

For this mid- to senior-level position, we’ll be looking at candidates with existing and emerging skills and interests that align with our leadership development framework, including thought leadership, market development, and effective team building and management.

We are looking for people with a strategic orientation and strong convictions around sustainability that possess the professional integrity, maturity, agility, and decision-making skills to drive results.

Position Responsibilities

  • Optimally position and grow Brendle Group’s existing services in the marketplace that align with our Strategic Plan
  • Provide technical expertise and skill to project execution
  • Proven project lifecycle management (business development through contracting, execution, management, quality control, closeout, and customer relationship management)
  • Effectively manage multiple projects in collaboration with clients, staff project managers, and other senior staff
  • Effectively work with, coordinate, and support the Brendle Group management team across all areas of existing and new services

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Self-motivated, ambitious, innovative team player with a passion for energy
  • B.S. or equivalent engineering, planning, business, and/or related degree from a 4-year accredited university or college (advanced degree preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience that includes related engineering, planning, and/or sustainability consulting experience
  • Minimum of 2 years consulting and management experience in the Salt Lake region serving, at minimum, 2 of the following sectors: local governments, utilities, K12/higher education, and private sector business
  • Consulting and workplace skills
    • Strong knowledge of PC-based software applications
    • Strong writing, verbal communication, and/or facilitation skills
    • Demonstrated project management success
    • Demonstrated business development success
    • Previous experience in or exposure to the consulting industry

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

Preferred qualifications and experience include any of the following:

  • Small business experience and/or understanding and enthusiasm for working in a small business atmosphere - including coordinating and communicating with co-workers to most efficiently utilize available resources and time
  • Relevant professional certification(s) commensurate with career path to date, such as but not limited to the following examples:
    • Professional Engineering (PE) license
    • Professional Planning certification (AICP)
    • MBA with a focus on sustainable enterprise and/or other sustainability-related licenses and certifications
    • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, trained facilitator, and/or other related project management and professional training
    • LEEDTM accredited professional

Location

Position will be based out of Salt Lake City, Utah with project work focused in the intermountain region.
